In August 2011 Board Secretary, Jenny Hopkins delivered teacher training to kindergarten teachers in Delha region of Rote Island Indonesia. The outcomes were so positive that Dehla, Lua Lemba Health and Community Development Foundation asked Big Fat Smile to support Jenny’s second training visit in April this year.
Jenny worked with Lua Lemba’s, Merci Killi who co-delivered the training and interpreted. The aim was to exchange ideas on how to best provide quality education to the children with the teachers of kindergartens of the area. Jenny’s goals were to provide teachers with training on improving the quality of their teaching, and to role model resources and teaching techniques. Jenny was happy to see that much of her training from the previous year had been implemented particularly around hand washing and hygiene. Children remembered the songs she taught them in 2011 and she introduced them to a new song performed by the children at Corrimal Community Preschool. Big Fat Smile donated a huge resource kit of musical instruments, nanos, speakers, Lego, dress ups, crayons and other cool resources designed by Jenny. These now sit with N’Dao and Lua Lemba and are available for all the 23 kindergartens to borrow.
We thank Jenny for volunteering her time, energy and knowledge to such a worthwhile project and the Indigo Foundation for its vision and partnership. Together we are getting closer to realising our Strategic Vision: A world where the safety, happiness, learning and growth of every child is assured.
